How to get rid of the epoxy's waxy residue.

I’m not a big fan of epoxy for beginners. Too different, too complex and you need separate tools that you use only with epoxy. That said it’s the best resin around. Anyway, here’s a neat trick to solve the following problem.

You have applied a fiberglass cloth with an epoxy, there’s some imperfection form spot to spot, no problem you think, I’ll sand it later, when harden and dry. But days later there’s still a waxy residue on the surface. You try to sand anyway, the waxy stuff roll under the sanding paper, it clogs it, this cost you a fortune in sanding paper.

Try this trick, it did worked for every brand of epoxy I’ve used. But it’s not a guarantee it will work on your brand. You got to test it on a small spot.

To keep it simple and avoid a chemistry lesson, when the epoxy hardens, the waxy stuff come to the surface. This stuff is a basic solution; you need to neutralize it with an acidic solution.

Here’s how to make a proper acidic solution:
mixing

MIX: 1 part white vinegar and 7 part water.

Using a cloth wetted by the solution wipe the surface with it you must leave enough mix on the surface. Do it exactly like you were cleaning a table with a wet cloth. Let it dry and the surface should be wax free.

Try it let me know if it worked with your brand of epoxy.
