In this issue of the Composite 101, 202 and Advance Newsletter: 1. AN FRP QUESTION FROM SUBSCRIBERS.Subscriber’s question by Sethu P. : Composite 101, 202 and Advance answer: To join two parts with a bolt you have to use flat washers on both side to spread the stress of the bolting over wide area, so use large flat washer. Make sure the part is design to receive a bolt to this place. By this, I mean there is a flat section where you’ll place the bolt and washers and the part is stiff enough to receive it. To bolt a part stiffness is important so the washer won’t cut in the part due to the vibration or flex in the part. For gel coated part you want to place a piece of mat where the bolt and washer will be this will allow to create a slightly resin richer portion of the laminate and will prevent the gel coat from cracking. With those precaution you will be able to fasten the bolt to a tight fit but do not over torque the bolt otherwise the gel coat will crack. Available at Guide.FiberglassTechnique.Com |
